A PRESENTATION about social media will take place at the Sanderson Suite in the Claremount Hotel, Douglas, tomorrow morning (Tuesday).
It has been organised by the Junior Chamber of Commerce and will incorporate a brief annual general meeting at the beginning.
A spokesman said: "Despite being only a few years old social media is a phenomenon that has transformed the world we live in.
"Organisations now have a new medium to deal with, a medium that has enhanced some businesses and impaired, if not totally devastated others.
"This has also resulted in the creation of a number of new opportunities, thanks to reduced barriers to entry and the global reach of the internet.
"The presentation will focus on three waves of technology that have led to where we are today, namely computerisation, the internet and finally social media.
"We will discuss how these waves have impacted competitive advantage and also how they have been brought to bear on local businesses.
"JCC are pleased to present Owen Cutajar, a technology consultant who has worked with a number of organisations helping them make best use of ICT at both a strategic and a tactical level.
"Having a background in both technology and business spheres Owen has been able to bridge the gap between the two disciplines enabling him to bring technology into the boardroom and strategic intent to technology teams.
"Social media is one of his personal interests and he can be blamed for introducing a number of people on the Island to Twitter, Facebook, Gowalla and other services that spring up over time."
Admission is £8.50 to members, £12.50 to non-members. Priority is always given to members.
While the JCC always attempts to accommodate guests at the door, advance payment is preferred to enable it to guarantee spaces.
There is a breakfast at 7.30am followed by the presentation at 8am.
