KPMG Isle of Man has appointed Harley Richards as a new manager in their tax team, with the aim of bringing a dedicated Employment Taxes/ Social Security specialist to the Manx practice.
Harley has moved from KPMG in London, where he worked for over 10 years in the employment taxes arena, advising a wide range of clients on subjects as diverse as remuneration planning, relocation packages, employment status disputes, internationally mobile workforces and termination arrangements.
Prior to joining the profession, Harley worked for the Inland Revenue and this background has allowed him to build up a wide ranging knowledge of the practical and commercial problems faced by businesses who have workforces operating in the UK, either full time or on a part time basis.
“For any business in the Isle of Man that engages employees or contractors in the UK, the increasingly stringent approach taken by HMRC means proper consideration now really needs to be given to income tax and NIC compliance,” he said.
“This is particularly relevant for any organisation that utilises planning strategies that are perceived by HMRC as being “high risk”, such as EFRBS and EBTs, or that is obliged to operate potentially complex aspects of the PAYE regime (i.e. mariners/ seafarers regulations, expatriate employees, the Construction Industry Scheme etc).”
Harley will be working particularly closely with Greg Jones and David Parsons to develop this new initiative both in the Isle of Man and the UK.
“We are delighted to welcome Harley into the team,” said Greg Jones, who heads up the Isle of Man and Gibraltar tax teams for KPMG. “The addition of such an experienced specialist from our UK firm can only strengthen our already diverse skill sets across private client, corporate tax and VAT advisory and compliance work”.
