The Revenue and Customs unit in the United Kingdom is demanding back some of the ?54 million lost through a carousel fraud involving a Manx company.
Emmanuel Hening, a dual French/Belgian national, was jailed for 15 years in 2006 for masterminding the scheme which saw mobile phones sold between his own companies to dodge VAT.
Customs in the UK is now asking for the cash back, along with a total of ?8.54 million from Hening’s co-defendants Jaswant Raykanda and Bhovinder Singh Sangha.
The ten-year investigation into the gang followed a trail of companies through the West Midlands, Lancashire and the Isle of Man.
