PDMS support budding entrepreneurs

by isleofman.com 4th November 2010

A CHARITY that gives local students the opportunity to experience running their own company has received sponsorship from PDMS.

The company is sponsoring the Junior Achievement Company Programme for the second year running.

Students aged between 15 and 19 are encouraged to set up and run their own company over the course of an academic year.

They must raise share capital and appoint directors as well as developing and selling products and services. Staff at PDMS act as business advisors to the companies created.

Companies are then selected to compete in the National Finals and one company from the Island will represent the Isle of Man at the European Company of the Year Competition.

Chris Gledhill, managing director of PDMS, said: "The team at Junior Achievement do a fantastic job of running the Company Programme and I'm delighted that we can continue supporting the great work they do.

"I'm always impressed by the entrepreneurship and of enthusiasm shown by the students involved each year. The programme also provides a great opportunity for people from the local business community to help mentor the business people of the future."

Junior Achievement is a Manx registered charity that helps young people in the Island gain essential skills for when they leave full time education.
