BARCLAYS Wealth has announced the appointment of Andrew Corlett as chairman of the board of directors of Barclays Private Clients International Ltd (BPCI).
This division of Barclays Wealth is headquartered in the Isle of Man and serves international clients as well as those based in the UK Crown Dependencies.
Andrew is the managing director of the Island based legal and professional services group Cains.
As chairman he will help to manage BPCI's relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in the UK, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
Andrew said: "BPCI is one of the biggest private sector employers across the Crown Dependencies and plays a crucial role in promoting them to the world's business and financial community.
"One of my tasks will be to reinforce the vital contribution made by these jurisdictions to the overall success of the City of London as a global financial centre.
"I look forward to working with the board of directors to extend and enhance corporate governance as a key element of BPCI's drive to meet the challenges presented by the changing economic landscape.
"The way we govern ourselves impacts not just on our own business but also on the larger economy. Better business practices will ultimately improve the environment in which we all live and operate.
"In addition to BPCI I will work closely with senior management at Barclays Wealth and at Barclays group level to ensure we continue to build upon the organisation's excellent track record - while addressing the wave of regulatory and tax initiatives that lie ahead.
"I have been impressed by the way in which BPCI has already taken a constructive leadership role in engaging with initiatives such as Advanced Basel II, the EU Savings Directive Part 2 and the Walker Report."
Greg Ellison, managing director of BPCI Isle of Man, said: "We are delighted to welcome Andrew to the Barclays Private Clients International Ltd board of directors as our new chairman. He brings with him a wide range of invaluable experience and expertise.
"Andrew's appointment completes a period of transition for our business in which we have appointed three members of our senior management as executive directors. This will improve the scope of knowledge and experience available to us as we successfully steer the business into the future."
Andrew replaces former chairman Larry Keenan.
