by isleofman.com 28th January 2011

Total Isle of Man has become the latest sponsor of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games.

The company will provide fuel for use in volunteer vehicles during the event, which runs from September 7 to 13 this year.

Commercial sales and marketing manager Andy Sweetman said: 'It's a privilege for us to be involved in such an auspicious event hosted on the Island.

'We are pleased to offer our support to the games which will be an exciting opportunity for the competitors, and have an overall benefit to both the community and business alike'.

The 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games will be the biggest multi-sport event ever held in the Isle of Man, with 1,000 athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations competing in seven different sporting events. Approximately 650 team officials will travel to the Island along with 250 technical officials.

The organising committee is looking for 1,000 volunteers to help it run the Games, which includes opening and closing ceremonies and a Cultural Day, which will be held in Castletown.

CYG2011 chairman and games director Geoff Karran said: 'We are delighted to have Total Isle of Man on board as a sponsor.

'We will use a considerable number of volunteer vehicles during the event and we are very grateful to the company for assisting us with fuel'.
