ISLE OF MAN Data Protection Supervisor Iain McDonald will address the local branch of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries (ICSA) on March 7 as part of their regular series of events.
At the event, sponsored by Appleby Isle of Man, Mr McDonald will explore the challenges and threats that technology in particular poses to privacy and how these are starting to be addressed.
Iain McDonald has been the Island’s Data Protection Supervisor since 2003 and oversaw the introduction of the current Data Protection Act and the Unsolicited Communications Regulations. Prior to this appointment, Iain worked for the General Registry including a prolonged appointment as Acting Chief Registrar.
Iain’s background is in IT and during his time in the Registry he was responsible for the development of the Island’s computerised land registration system and the Axiom courts and fines management system. Prior to moving to the Island in 1994, Iain worked for a multinational company which specialised in Geographic Information Systems.
Gillian Prestwich, ICSA IOM Council Chairman said, “We are delighted to have Appleby’s backing for this event. Keeping Chartered Secretaries and colleagues in the Isle of Man fully up-to-date on important issues is a vital part of our role and commercial support is greatly appreciated.”
The presentation will start at 6pm for 6.15pm at the Shearwater Suite, Palace Hotel Casino. Admission is free to members. Places for non-members (subject to availability) are £10 each. Further information and booking:- icsa@manx.net
