Concern over costs incurred by delays

by isleofman.com 1st March 2011

Salaries of public servants, the lack of progress on redeveloping the former Lord Street bus station site, and a long-running footpaths dispute are all subjects being raised by Michael MHK David Cannan in the House of Keys today (Tuesday).

He has questions about pay for senior staff at the Post Office and civil servants, the latest starting date for the Lord Street scheme, and whether progress has been made in resolving matters at Langness.

At a time when postal workers are being told there is no money for a cost of living pay award, Mr Cannan says he is concerned that senior management posts have been regraded with increased salaries.

He also wants to know how many civil servants with salaries over ?59,000 received incremental pay rises during the current financial year, and will be doing so during the next one.

In the questions about Lord Street and Langness, Mr Cannan specifically refers to the costs incurred by government.

Onchan member Peter Karran has questions about footpaths in the Ronaldsway and Balthane areas, and a police raid on a firm of tax consultants in September last year, and North Douglas MHK John Houghton will ask about funding for disabled adaptions in private and public authority houses.

Topics covered in written questions include supply teachers, kerbside recycling and the cost of heating oil on the Island during the past year.

There are three bills on the Keys order paper and the Legislative Council is sitting from 10.30am, with eight bills at various stages of consideration.

As usual, there is full coverage of question time from the House of Keys on Manx Radio's AM 1368 frequency, from 10am.
