SURE has announced that it is launching the Island's fastest ever consumer broadband service in the Isle of Man.
The communications provider is using Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) technology to offer download speeds of up to 40Mb per second and upload speeds of up to 2Mb per second.
Sure launched its first broadband internet service – offering speeds of up to 16Mb - in November last year and has since passed the 1,000 customer mark.
This new broadband service will work in conjunction with the multi-million fibre optic undersea network that Sure brought online in 2010 and the VDSL technology provided by Manx Telecom.
Andy Bridson, chief commercial officer at Sure, said: "Speed is the biggest concern broadband users have and by offering 40Mb speeds we're giving customers what they want. Speed is the essence for this product - for the Facebook generation and the internet generation upload speed can be as important as download speed.
"Having high speed broadband into extra urban and rural communities in the Isle of Man is great for consumers but it's also great for inward investors – they can have people based at home, working home into office, or in the office. It certainly enables and provides for a vibrant economic base for the Isle of Man.
"Sure is redefining communications on the Isle of Man. As a company our focus is always on delivering reliability, value, innovation and first class customer service. I strongly believe that 40Mb broadband meets all of these and will prove to be extremely popular with our customers."
Due to technical limitations this product will only be available to customers living within two km of a Manx Telecom exchange – which is about 40 per cent of all residents. Those who do not qualify will still be able to use the 16Mb broadband product.
Sure 40Mb broadband will be live from October this year however customers can apply for the service in advance from today (Thursday). Prices start at £21.95 per month.
