THE Isle of Man’s minimum wage is set to be increased, but it’s only a small rise - 10p an hour.
The Manx government’s Department of Economic Development is to submit Regulations to Tynwald in October which, if approved, will increase the Minimum Wage for workers aged 18 or over from £6.10 to £6.20 per hour.
It follows a recommendation by the Minimum Wage Committee. The increase would come into effect from 1st November 2011.
The recommendation of the Committee is to increase the main adult rate, but to leave all other rates unchanged, has been approved by both Treasury and the Department of Economic Development. There has been no amendment to the minimum wage since April 2010.
Minister for Economic Development, Allan Bell said, “This is another step forward for low paid workers in the Isle of Man. Even in difficult economic times we will continue to promote the welfare of those on the lower incomes.”
