Funeral of horologist Dr George Daniels to take place today

THE funeral of respected horologist Dr George Daniels will take place in the Isle of Man today (Wednesday).

 

His funeral will be held at Lezayre Parish Church at 12pm followed by cremation in Douglas at 2pm. 

 

A statement on his website, www.danielslondon.com, reads: "Dr George Daniels CBE passed away peacefully at his home in the Isle of Man on Friday, October 21.

 

"It is a national loss and his amazing life and works have established his place in history as the greatest watchmaker of his time.

 

"He is mourned by the entire horological industry – his influence on which was monumental and will never be forgotten."

 

In January 2010 Dr Daniels was awarded the CBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours List and is the only watchmaker ever to receive the honour of 'Master Watchmaker for services to horology'.

 

During his career Dr Daniels completed 37 watches and invented the co-axial and the independent double wheel which have found international support in the watch industry.
