Driver left with repair bill after hit and run collision

by isleofman.com 13th February 2012

A DRIVER has been left with a "costly repair bill" after another motorist drove into their car and left the scene.

Police are appealing for information following the incident which happened between 11.30pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday (February 12).

At the time of the incident the car was parked near to the traffic lights at the junction of York Road and Somerset Road.

Damage was caused to the driver's side bumper and headlight area and police say this appears to have been caused by a white vehicle.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Man Constabulary said: "The driver of the offending vehicle must have been aware of the damage caused - such is the extent of the damage and the positioning of the vehicle.

"The owner of the parked vehicle is now facing a costly repair bill and his car being taken off the road whilst work is carried out."

Police have reminded drivers that it is a statutory requirement to stop and report a collision, where damage has occurred, and provide details.

If the owner of the vehicle is not present the matter should be reported to the police as soon as possible, within 24 hours, however minor the damage.

Anyone with information over this incident is asked to contact PC Robin Arnold on 01624 631212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
