John Rimmer, Partner at Appleby (Isle of Man) LLC, will give an update on Isle of Man case law and legislative developments at the Jersey Institute of Law conference today (Friday 26 October). John is also joining Sir Michael Birt and Paolo Panico on a final round-table discussion to be chaired by Sir Philip Bailhache.
The conference, “Insights into Trust Law: The Channel Islands and beyond”, will feature presentations by members of the judicial, practitioner and academic community in the Channel Islands and beyond on the topic of trusts law as well as what is currently happening in other jurisdictions, including the Isle of Man.
Speaking before the event, John Rimmer commented: “I am delighted to join the panel at this year’s conference, along with my colleagues from Appleby’s Jersey office. Appleby remains the only international law firm able to offer advice in all three Crown Dependencies and it is a great opportunity for us to share this unique knowledge and insight.”
He continued: “We are all experiencing similar challenges in these difficult times and I am sure that our discussions around these common issues will be positive and will serve to highlight opportunities for the Crown Dependencies to work together.”
John will be joined by a number of overseas speakers with experience of trust law across other jurisdictions, both civil and common law, including Prof. Luc Thevenoz from the University of Geneva, Prof. Paolo Panico of Private trustees SA in Luxembourg, Prof. Paul Matthews of Kings College London, Robert Ham QC from London, and Michael McAuley from Carey Olsen in Guernsey. The conference will be opened by the Bailiff, Michael Birt, and other local speakers include James Mews of the States of Jersey and Advocate Steve Meiklejohn of Ogier.
