Ben-My-Chree Dry Dock Overhaul Dates Confirmed for Mid April

by isleofman.com 12th January 2012
Dry dock dates have been confirmed for Ben-my-Chree’s biennial statutory overhaul. The dry dock period was provisionally scheduled for March but this has now been confirmed for April 16 until May 5. A large capacity freighter has been chartered from Northlink Ferries for the dry dock period, while Manannan will cover all passenger and car services, as she did during the Ben’s last overhaul in 2010. The chartered freighter will be either MV Helliar or her sister ship, MV Hildasay, with a decision made by Northlink nearer the charter period. Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘We usually charter a freighter to cover the Ben’s overhaul, which is typically earlier in the year than this time around. As a suitable freighter has become available for mid-April, I am pleased that we have been able to confirm the charter and dry dock dates. ‘The Ben will go into dry dock on Monday, April 16 – after the busy Easter holiday period has finished – and come out on Saturday, May 5 for post-dock sea trials. Her first scheduled sailing will be on Sunday, May 6. ‘The freighter we have booked is well-suited to the Island’s needs and will offer one return sailing each day from Heysham. Being able to confirm a freighter so far in advance will allow our customers to plan with more certainty.’ Manannan will provide excess capacity to cover Heysham, Liverpool and Irish passenger services. Connecting coaches will also be provided for foot passengers in Heysham. ENDS
