Douglas City Council presides over the capital of the Isle of Man and in 2022 was awarded ‘city’ status by Her Majesty the Queen as part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Oozing charm, the City is the heartbeat of the Island’s diverse economy which includes thriving finance and e-gaming sectors, world-class aircraft and shipping registries and a flourishing space industry.
Yet it also provides the platform for a rich and compelling history, uniquely vibrant culture, strength of community and extraordinary nature.
As a proud partner of UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man - the Island is the only entire nation in the world to be recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve – Douglas is committed to strengthening its green credentials.
Visitors and locals can enjoy horse-drawn tram rides along its pedestrian shopping promenade, dotted with restored 19th century buildings and lining the shore with independent boutiques and High Street shops. The Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre Complex entertains with an array of performing arts and films, while the parks, gardens and museums sprinkled throughout promise relaxation and culture.
The Henry Bloom Noble Library – named after the philanthropist who made Douglas his home - provides members free access to thousands of newspapers and magazines from around the globe, including magazines in 47 languages from 130 countries!
A true thriving capital city!
