Bye By Baby described by Ian Rankin as 'a quick, taut thriller ... not a word is wasted." and an Amazon top ten bestseller with sales of over 50,000 copies, has just been published by Culture Vannin, under the title Slane Lhiat, Vabban.
Originally from Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands Alan Guthrie is Scottish literary agent, author and editor of crime fiction and he has won many plaudits for his crime writing. This novella which was originally published by Barrington Stokes has been translated into Manx by Dr. Brian Stowell.
The story tells of a seven-year-old boy who disappears after school; the case is handed to Detective Frank Collins who has been looking to lead a high-profile case for a while and sets out determined to prove his worth. But the missing schoolboy is only a trigger for another crime. Someone is intent on exploiting the boy's grief-stricken mother. And they have plans for Frank Collins too.
Adrian Cain, the Manx Language development Officer, for Culture Vannin, who worked with Barrington Stokes and Dr. Stowell on the translation, commented that, 'this it is fantastic news to have such a modern and high-profile story translated into Manx. The story is gripping and the Manx easy to read and we hope to work with the original publishers on other similar such novellas in the new future.'
