The new season of shows and concerts at the Centenary Centre began with a well received performance by the international Romanian concert violinist Bogdan Vacarescu, who has performed across the world.
Despite having missed his flight and subsequent short delay to the beginning of his debut at the Centenary Centre, the classical violinist soon won the hearts of his audience with his outstanding talent and quirky sense of humour.
Equally comfortable performing rock, Balkan, or traditional music, he has collaborated with Nigel Kennedy and She'Koyokh, who also recently performed at the Centenary Centre. A graduate of the Conservatoire of Music in Bucharest and the Royal Academy of Music in London, he's influenced by the German, Russian and Franco-Belgian schools of violin playing.
He was joined by creative pianist Julian Jacobson, who performs as both a duo and ensemble pianist. Known for performing as a soloist with numerous orchestras, appearing in more than forty countries on five continents, and with famous conductor Sir Simon Rattle, he is currently a professor of piano and chamber music at the Royal College of Music.
